Still Searching for a Kidney Donor: An Update on Eric

It’s been a little while since we last shared an update, and I wanted to take a moment to reconnect and say thank you.

Eric continues to navigate life with advanced kidney disease. There are good days and more challenging ones, and we are taking things one step at a time. Through it all, we are incredibly grateful for the support, kindness, and encouragement we’ve received from so many of you.

Some positive news

Although we are still searching for a donor match, Eric does have someone very special who has come forward and is willing to participate in the kidney exchange program. This generous decision allows donors and recipients to be matched through a swap, and it has given us a meaningful sense of hope during this process.

It is still a journey, and we remain very aware of the time, but we are deeply grateful and continue to stay hopeful.

A new chapter we never expected

One of the most unexpected and meaningful parts of this journey has been how Mahjong has become part of this new chapter in our lives together.

What started years ago as my own passion has, over time, become something Eric and I now share. As his health changed and life began to look different, Mahjong became a place where we could still show up together, to connect with others, to stay engaged, and to find moments of normalcy.

It has grounded us in a way we never anticipated.

I started teaching Mahjong about six years ago during COVID, when people were craving connection. At the time, it was something I pursued on my own, and Eric was always incredibly supportive.

Fast forward to today, the Mahjong community around us has grown in ways I never imagined, and it has coincided with Eric’s health journey. As his condition has progressed, he stepped away from his main job and began helping with teaching and running events. What started as my passion has now become something we share together.

And the community has been extraordinary.

People have helped spread the word, shared information, and even taken steps to get tested for Eric. The kindness we’ve experienced has been overwhelming.

One moment that will always stay with us happened during one of our classes. Eric was sitting next to a student who shared that she had decided to learn Mahjong because she was preparing to donate a kidney through the exchange program for her husband. She wanted something she could do during her recovery.

Eric was sitting right next to her at the table.

It felt like one of those moments that was simply meant to be. She generously shared her entire experience with us, and it gave us so much hope.

In many ways, this community has carried us through a time we could not have navigated alone.

Our goal remains the same.

Eric is still in need of a living kidney donor, and we continue to hope that the right person will come forward.

If you’ve ever thought about learning more, or even just exploring what that process looks like, we would be so grateful. There is absolutely no obligation, and all information is kept completely confidential.

Thank you again for being part of this journey with us. Your support truly means more than we can express.

With gratitude,

Jackie
